For the first time in Australia, a conference focussing on the innovation and growing impact of diaspora communities in the global humanitarian, peace and development effort will be held on 26 & 27 September 2016. This forum will explore and enhance the power of diasporas in Australia and the region, bringing together leaders and influencers in the humanitarian network as well as speakers and participants from Australian and international diaspora organisations, government, policy makers and NGOs.

The two-day conference is convened by the Diaspora Learning Network whose members are Diaspora Action Australia (DAA), University of Melbourne, Australian Council for International Development, Refugee Council of Australia, Australian Red Cross, Oxfam Australia and Afghan Australian Relief and Development Organisation.

We are seeking Expressions of Interest for presentations, to run a workshop, or to showcase a diaspora organisation project within the following diaspora themes: human and economic development; conflict resolution and peace building; humanitarian issues and response; human rights; and settlement in host countries. The deadline is 30 June 2016.

DAA offers skill support for the preparation of submissions and presentations. To find out more or to register, email: conference@diasporaaction.org.au or visit: http://www.diasporasinaction.org.au/
