The reality of healthcare in PNG

A 20-minute documentary distributed on YouTube shows the dissatisfaction in Papua New Guinea communities struggling to access adequate health services and the huge challenges faced by government health workers trying to do the best they can with very limited resources.

Journalist Rachel Shisei posted the video online and it has been shared through forums such as Sharp Talk, Twitter and the PNGexposed blog.

Titled ‘Affectionate angels neglected’, the documentary shows clinics with sharps discarded outside because they don’t have an incinerator and boxes of expired drugs. Health workers detail problems with drug shortages, no fridges to store vaccines, a lack of transport and inadequate staffing levels, among other problems.
